have about 2,000 miles on the Silverado SS now. Chev said change oil at 7,000 miles. Naturally I'm not going to wait that long. Is it about time now? This motor has an iron block BTW. Probably to to Mobil One. Royal Purple racing oil is too expensive for a PU.

7K seems way too long to me, however...didn't it come with a synthetic?

I'd definitely change the oil now, going to 7000 miles on the factory fill is not really all that safe, especially since they use 5w30 dino oil which will thin out to a 5w20 long before you even hit 3k.

Pick a good synthetic and go with 5-6k intervals and you'll get a long engine life.
