Cam selection for Vic jr and 310 cfm 243's in a 2500 lb street car...
I've got a 2500 lbs hybrid LS 911 which the gearing is a bit short for a LS1...at 70 mph it's at 2800 rpm with 25.5'' tall tires. I'd like to get some cam suggestions for a good street cam which isn't such a dog off the line like my G5X2 is, but still stable in high rpms. Maybe what i'm looking for is a higher lift, lower lsa, with less duration that is happy above 5500 rpm yet pulls hard from 2000 rpm. Maybe my tuner is retarded, but i get crazy cam surge up to 1900 rpm. He blames it on my car's light weight/no load. Weekend car so i'm looking for something aggressive but still not a pain in the *** around town.
Current-
-Stock 2000 F-body 346 long block with Shimmed/ported ls6 oil pump
-Stock 243 heads un-ported
-G5X2 cam 114 lsa .595'' .609'' 232/240
-Stock LS6 intake with stock TB
-Meziere electric water pump
-Hooker block huggers shorty headers (used only for clearance issues) with 1 5/8'' primaries modified for 3'' collector to 3'' true dual magna flows, no cats, F***ing way to loud! My neighbors hate me...
So the new setup will be-
-ported/polished 243 heads-springs good for .650 lift 64cc ARP head studs
-*New cam here*
-Port matched Victor Jr.
-Not sure which, but a 4 bbl throttlebody-suggestions please
-Custom 1 3/4'' stepped to 1 7/8'' 27'' long primary 3'' collector, cats, magnaflows, electric cutout. (thinking of stock cats and muffs with cutout)
Any help would be...helpful Thanks, Russell

i would suggest a custom grind from someone like patrick g or predator z. for that setup u would need a very specific cam not something off the shelf. the valve events for a victor jr are far different than that of a composite intake

agreed but since ur setup its not exaclty off the shelf either ur heads are custom ported, and a ported vic jr and bigger exhaust that changes ur setup completely and a cam tailored to that exact setup would yield much more power and efficiency. im just speaking from what ive seen. just ask ur self why put all the money into ported heads and ported intake and expensive headers if ur just going to go budget off the shelf on the cam? the cam is everytthing in the engine. its difference between making more power than others or making the same. just think about it. a little more money invested in a good cam specific to your needs will make u much more happy to. good luck !

Honestly if you are having problems with your current cam what makes you think a bigger cam is going to make driving on the streets. You say you want the thing to cruise awesome and be very driveable. Yet you are putting on ported heads and victor jr intake which will kill your low end. Than you say you want a monster trex cam. First you really need to decide on what you want. Ported heads + vic jr + huge cam = 7000 rpm and your stock short block will grenade.

I think you'd be better off getting a smaller cam and a FAST 90/90 combo to get good useable power in the range you're looking for and have plenty of room up top when you want to go WOT. Talk to someone who specs cams for a living like Patrick G, PredatorZ, or your favorite LS performance shop. If you're looking for streetable in a lightweight car, the Vic. Jr. and a larger cam are the wrong direction if you're already having problems.
An Accufab carb style TB will probably be your best bet if you really are adament about a Vic. Jr. setup.

This is what predator Z recommended to me when I asked him the same question for my setup.
"236/240 .607/.609 110 +2 LSA
That cam has 18* overlap, lopes like a raped ape, power range 2500>6800
Should make 460+rwhp"

The G5X2 should not surge at all with the right tuner, and I would stay FI if I were you.
My advice, seek a better tuner (anyone saying he cannot tune better bcause of the weight of the ca is limited in his abilities)
IMO you have a nice setup, just need better tuning.
Also instead of changing your whole setup, change your gears.
