is there supposed to be a gasket behind the oil pump,ls1

Nope and mine idles with 65psi oil pressure hot. As long as there are no gouges or deep scratches between the mating surfaces its fine. There is supposed to be one on the oil pick up tube though. Two different kinds of o-rings depending on the pick up/pan combo you use. black o-ring for fbody pan, green for truck pan.
