Not extremely unusual to be down a court at nearly 3000 miles. If I remember correctly people were only getting claims answered when they were losing a court every thousand or so--really extreme circumstances

so if i went to sell you a new car with 19 miles on it and said "oh ya the motor is so good it goes through at least a quart every 2600 miles sometimes more! but look at that leather!"
im sorry i guess i have different standards. to me new is new. performance or economical a motor or car should not burn or lose its fluids. hell for every 2600 miles i drive it gm should give me 5 bucks for my losed oil.

no, its not that i am worried it just dont really seem right. its also the fact that id like to know where its going. rather it be rings, pcv, or the chevy fairy is just thirsty.
well the dealer just called. they would like me to bring it in and pay for an oil change (70 bucks) and then theyll check and test it. hmm, i got to buy oil so they can check it so i can lose more oil? well ill be taking off the stealth air lid tomorrow morning and go back to stock. lets see if they say anthing about the catback. for now on its used cars all the way.

your right mustangs dont lose oil they lose races!

its normal for these cars. dont worry about it, just add another quart and be done with it. and btw, what kind of oil are you using?? ive switched to royal purple, and i am yet to see my car "use" any oil. (knock knock). its about the same price as mobil one down here too.

Go read some of the posts on z06vette.com about oil burning issues in '01 and '02. You can alos reference what Gm says is normal, and how much you have to burn before they consider it a problem. 1 quart 2500 is not even going to raise an eybrow @ GM. 1 quart every 1500 will. Also, your driving style has a lot to do with how much oil the car will burn. Look at some of the oil burn threads. High RPM with no load causes more ring flutter which casues oil consumption. You can modify your driving habits and basically not burn a bit of oil...

GM now recommends dyno oil to be used in the LS1. This was hard for GM to recommend since the Vettes are factory filled with Mobil 1

Put Royal Purple 10W30 or 5W30 in it! Kicks Mobil 1 and dyno oil's *ss. A few more $$$ but holds up much better...

Tin Indian, can you provide a TSB on that recommendation. I have seen no such indicator from any of the GM documentation on this whatsoever.

The issues is not a function of the oil, it is a function of the rings and the way the car is driven...

Most any car goes through about a quart every oil change. Its just when its a performance car we tend to check it more often. I have worked on cars for many years and trust me most brands do the same.

I ran 5w30 Royal Purple since I got the car with 30,000 miles on it. Now at 105,000 miles with H/C and N20 on the car, I switched to a slightly heavier 10w30...I never have had piston slap or burned oil (Knock Knock..also)...

Only time I ever thought something was up was it was a SUPER COLD (By Texas Standards) 20ish degrees outside @ 5am when I started her up and she went to slappin for a couple of seconds but other than that never had a problem.

But it is tru "MOST" LSX motors are prone to using oil...I fill mine with 6qts and try and keep it that way...
