Default Buying unassembled heads

If I were to buy a set of un assembled heads, what kind of assembly would I have to do? Would it be as simple as inserting the valves, pushing the seals on, and installing the springs, or am I missing something? Seems like its not worth 100 bucks to have the vendor assmble them if that is all it entails. Thanks

...you need to "lap" the valves with compound so they seat against the heads....

...you can do this by hand...

...a pro would check the spring pressure, installed spring height, head flatness and other stuff....

Wow, I didn't think anyone still does hand lapping. Spring installed height measurement is crucial though.

If the spring installed height was wrong, would that be something wrong with the valve seat or spring seat? And would that be something I should take care of or would that just be a shitty head?

If the installed height for your valves doesn't jive with your spring selection, it can always be shimmed up. Or you could go with slightly longer valves for a taller height.

What heads are you considering? ...the valves on the 2002 and later ls6 heads are 6MM longer than ls1's and are hollow sodium filled units....

...if you are considering a ls6, head I think you should stay with the newer valves...
