Default good cam to match milled afr 205s

Ok so I know I will eventually be going with a set of afr 205s milled to around 62 or 60cc, but i'm not sure what to do for a cam. I will be running long tubes thru a catted x-pipe, elec cutout, and stock mufflers. I will probably stick with the ls6 intake for a while, maybe do a fast next year.

I would have saved up and bought all the toys this winter but I was off work for a few months with a torn acl so now i plan on doing just the cam and headers before spring. I just want to make sure I get the right cam to go with the 205s that will be coming down the road. The car is mostly a street machine and I want great power under the curve. Might make a few passes at the strip and maybe a road course or two. I'd really like to avoid flycutting so I dont want to go too crazy on the duration. I would be happy with around 450 at the wheels, but I am not obsessed with dyno numbers. I just want a car that pulls hard throught the throttle range. I don't mind a somewhat choppy idle, but I dont want to shake the bejeezus out of the car either. I would rather not leave alot on the table for the sake of manners though, just nothing too extreme is all.

The car is an 01 c5, its an M6, and has around 55k on the clock. I havent picked a tuner yet, but i know it will need it.

I'd love to hear what you guys that have 205s that are milled are running for a cam, and how you like it.

This is my car with the cam/heads in sig. Cam is on a 113 LSA. Great compromise for a "streetcar" cam. And should run a little better in the 1/4 with a trans that doesn't slip

AFR 6016 cam. 224/228 114 LSA. Nice street manners, pulls like a raped ape from idle to 6,500 RPM or higher if you want. I just installed this cam with the AFR 205's, very nice combination. Shoot a PM to Tony Mamo if you have questions on it, but if you do a search you will see its his "recipe".

Ditto!! That's the cam Tony developed to work with those heads. But, realize that there is more to it than just heads and the cam. He also has a ported FAST 90 intake, light weight flywheel, good headers, perfect blueprinted short-block, etc. It takes all that to get 480 horse like he did. But, it's worth it!!!

yup, nicely matching cam for the 205s!! but since you mentioned you dont mind slight chop, go with the 6017 cam 234/238 .595/.605@114. With todays tuning software, it can still be tuned to be smooth for the street.

speak with Tony about it

That cam looks like fly cutting will be required with the milling the OP is proposing.

Hmm 6016 might be what I'm looking for... Anyone running this cam with heads milled to 60cc... If so how was your valve clearance, and what gaskets did you go with.

i do realize that there are a lot of little things required to get the most out of a set up... but i want to make sure i start off with the right foundation to work on.

I believe Tony recommends .024 milling (62cc) no need to go to 60cc with that cam. give him a ring

Yes, I am. I had Tony work the chambers and when he does he removes about 2cc. Final chamber was 62cc therefore mill was to 60cc (without Tony's work). I went with 0.040" Cometics. Clearance was close to recommended minimums. Using a dial indicator, I was slightly below 0.080" intake. Using clay I was slightly over. Bottom line, it was OK.

The thing to check is if you are truly considering a 60cc chamber, you may find your DCR numbers are high (maybe too high). I would verify that and also speak with Tony directly if taking this path just to make sure I haven't missed something.

I will say it will have tons of street throttle response though.

Default good cam to match milled afr 205s..... other options...

I installed AFR 205's out of the box, milled 0.016" + 0.040" cometics and a Patriot Performance 225/229/114 cam and put down 442/405 RWHP/TQ SAE....Still have the stock LS6 intake manifold and BBK shorty headers + stock Z cats on my 04 Z06.......My Vette was dialed in at RPM motors in Valencia...This power level may sound high to some people for a car without a FAST manifold or long tube headers. But consider this, at the same dyno shop, my buddies 07 Z06 put down 472 RWHP SAE with a K&N intake + tune, which is pretty reasonable.... The other cam I considered was the comp XER 224/230...

Good luck on your build

DO NOT go with the g5x3/4 unless you plan on flycutting or you have pistons with reliefs..
