Default Does my camshaft look OK to run?

I finally got around to removing my MS3 cam out of my old LS1 that most of you know busted a ringland and wreaked all kinds of havok. Just posting some pics so I know if this wear is excessive and the cam needs to be replaced or not because I was planning on using it in my LS2 build.

Yeah then you could spit fire man.

I think its neat how the wear pattern gets wider as it travels up the lobe. It looks fine to me though. Not that a have decades of experience or anything.

Ok so I looked over the camshaft again today and now I'm worried Sorry for the horrible pics this camera is super old and doesn't have a portrait function

Its got a small gouge in it which looks to be cause by the lifter but isn't the cam harder than the lifter??? Would I damage anything using this cam again???

Can you feel the ridge with your finger nail? if so then do not run it. It's a deep scratch. Dont try to sand it either.

Yes I can feel it with my finger nail like I said its not real deep but could be enough for the lifter to get into and either knock it off center of the lobe or even make it worse which is my major fear, It'll defiantly suck trashing the cam though as thats just more cash I have to spend but I'd rather be safe than ruin a new motor.

Yeah if its even a scratch you can feel with your finger nail its no good IMO. Its not worth the risk of having the lifter fail.

I agree. The fingernail taste is always a quick and dirty way to check. If it fails the fingernail, it's probably not what you'd want to run high rpm with fresh components.

i had a cam that looked like that...i was going back and forth wether or not to run it, i knew i better not, but i kept wondering if it would be alright, so one night i got drunk and started looking at it, knowing i shouldnt run it, i took it out in the garage and repeateldy beat it on the lobes with a hammer, got the grinder out and went at it a time or two with that.....lol just so i wouldnt be tempted to let my cheap mentality get the best of me and ruin my build.

Well thats a major bummer guys but I understand your reasoning, now in return Patrick G should spec out a new cam for me so I can feel better about all of this
