Default BEWARE OF IMMITATORS - cheaper timing chains are being sold as the C5-R

It has come to our attention that there are IWIS timing chains on the market being advertised as the C5-R timing chain, yet being sold at 1/3rd the price. Some are even being sold under the Katech part number. These chains ARE NOT the highly tested and proven C5-R timing chain. I spoke with IWIS in Germany today and confirmed this. They do confirm that the cheaper chain is simply an aftermarket chain and not the race chain that Katech has been buying for 10 years. This aftermarket chain has different pins and different plates than the C5-R race chain.

The C5-R chain has been tested in every 24 hours of Le Mans the Corvette race program has ever ran. Yes, the C5-R chain is also used on the C6.R. I don't think that I have ever mentioned that before. It has also been tested for 30 hours of durability on the dyno. The C5-R chain has also been proven in the 24 Hours of Daytona, 24 hours of Spa, 12 hours of Sebring and many other durability races. Every C5-R and C6.R winning championships in the USA, Europe, and Asia has the C5-R chain. We have never broken a C5-R chain.

Katech Performance has built it's business on selling race-quality components proven by Katech Inc, to the aftermarket. We would not jeopardize our customer's engines with a less than race quality chain and we don't think you should either. To be sure that you are getting a race C5-R chain, please contact Katech to place your order, or inquire with one of the following recommended dealers: Vector Motorsports (stocking), LG Motorsports (stocking), IPS Motorsports, Guldstrand, TPIS, Total Engine Concepts, or Thunder Racing.

I can also say that in all the years of building LSx motors, we have never broken a Katech chain. We've used them on 8K+ RPM solid roller motors with 7-800 lbs of spring pressure with NO issues.

Thanks,
Shane

Its easy to tell. If it's 1/3rd the price, its the aftermarket chain not the race chain.

in the rare scenario that its not a 1/3rd of the price are there any obvious physical things to look at to tell the difference?

Forgive me ive never compared chains before but it may be helpful to a newer person to ls engines

You won't be able to tell just by looking at it.

Well, I understand that you don't want to call out those offenders, but what about posting some links of where to buy the real ones. I don't even know what a real one costs.

Got my C5R chain today from Thunder racing someone Jason recommended me trying cause he trusts that its the right chain. I had already purchased a 49.00 chain thinking it was the C5R and Im glad I waited to get the proper one there is no comparison as my pic below shows. I had all the chains avaliable to show each as can be seen the C5R is a super high quality piece

Guys,

Scoggin Dickey sells the IWIS aftermarket chain and as far as I know their salesmen are not advertising it as the C5-R. They are being truthful about it and their website shows a different part number than the C5-R.

To clarify:
stock chain < IWIS aftermarket < C5-R chain
