Default Bad Comp 918 springs - offical company policy

...I'm traveling to Reading PA for the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA)fall nationals this week end!!!!! ...hope Anderson kicks the Johnson boyz' butts in the Pro Stock class...

Anyway, Comp Cams has a propmotional 18-wheel truck at the track that is packed with high-level company officials....some pee-ons' too....

I'll pose the question about the implied warranty on the 918 springs and get their official policy regarding damage caused by the 100 or so (yeh, right!) non-blue stripe valve springs that did not get their two last production steps (opps ...we forgot to heat treat these pups runnin' down the line, ...oh well, lets sell them anyway...)

AHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

Man, what's your problem. Did you have one break on your car? If you don't like Comp springs, don't use them.

Do you own a set of 918's without the blue stripe? No? Then STFU.

I do, and I'm not worried.

I agree. I also own non-blue stripe 26918s that have over 3K miles of regular 6300+ rpm opperation with my B1 cam and they are perfect (VERY quiet too). I am not worried.

I'd be afraid that they read this board and would kick my *** if I were you!!

Just a FYI.. mine are still living with the TSP231/237 and several 6500+ rpm pulls!

I hope the Johnsons take this race! No one works harder than Warren at making power and keeping whole race program in the front of Pro Stock! He has GM money because he deserves it! Anyway i run pre blue stripes 918's and i have 22,000 miles over 115 passes and many of them right at 7000 rpms! I have backshifted under power several times with no valves bent and i dont even run titanium retainers. People should find David Vizards eye opening articles on Beehive springs, how they work and there distinct advantages!

Im just wondering how many of the guys that have screwed up motors from the springs are gonna tell Robert to STFU ? I used to run the 918`s without any problems but they were the blue stripe ones. If I had those springs that had problems I would be interested in knowing just what they would do for me.

Anyone who had their springs break should call Comp directly. They will not take anyone else seriously, unless your name is followed by "Attorney at law."

I just checked my miles. I have 18k trouble free miles on my non-striped 918's. I did not use a height mic although I will next time. I shift at 6,500 rpm but have touched my 6,800 rpm limiter many times.

If CompCams really did forget a heat treatment or something they should be liable for some of the damages. What if you had a shop do a cam install and they forgot to torque down the cam bolts and they back out destroyin the engine? Would you be as forgiving to the shop? Would you be happy with just the refund of the labor costs of the install?

I dont have anything against comp cams. I got a set of blue stripe 918's. At this point Im assuming all risks of potential damage from spring failure.

Hey Toxic:
As Howard Cosel used to say on Monday Night Football, - "Great graphic!"

*************************
I suspect you guys are all getting on my case since you stayed home all weekend and I saw Shoemaker destroy the NHRA 1/4 mile RECORD (no pun intended) at 4.44!!! (

No, he was not running Comp 918 springs on his hemi-headed nitro-fuel monster...

...Now seriously guys; the official Comp Cam policy on 918s springs per their own representative who was present at the NHRA race is as follws:

...We will replace any spring found to be defective; there is no reimbursement, however, for damage done by the defective springs to other engine components (valves, pistons, heads, etc.)....

...Unoffical observation: We've had a number of reported failures with these springs, particularly from an earlier production run; the failures are NOT limited to any specific batch and include purported failures on the striped springs...
