Default connecting rod questions

what the difference between a old style sm block rod and an ls1/6 if they have the same dimensions.. (6.125 9.27 pin 2.1 journal)?

also..are aluminum rods on the street a bad idea? (dd)

The big end of SBC rods is not centered under the beam as it is on the newer rods. SBC rods are offset because the big-end thickness is not equal to the offset between cylinder banks. The offset between cylinder banks of the new engines is exactly equal to the thickness of a rod big-end, hence symmetrical rods.

LS motors use a metric pin .944", performance rods/pistons are .927"

Unnecessary really, the work you do for fitting aluminum rods doesn't' worth it.
With a steel rod you can run a tighter quench. Few LS pistons will fit an aluminum rod i've found, need to have the pistons internally milled to fit.
Lot of the higher end Diamond pistons will fit an aluminum rod.

ok the offset makes sense..for aftermarket pistons..i couldnt see why there were ls and and then small block listed seperate when the dimensions looked the same.
