Default Best heads for G5X2 cam

I just purchased the G5X2 cam 232/240 .595/.608 112 lsa.
I am looking a getting Stage II heads. I know a guy that I can get Absolute stage II heads from for $1000. But if spending more money means getting a better head then so be it. If so what are some recomendations from all of you on which heads would work best with this cam. I am really looking to make high numbers on the dyno. The car is a 99 Z28 m6 with lid and k&n filter, carbon fiber driveshaft (acpt), borla exaust (soon will be changed to true dual), and a few other bolt-ons.

I say go with a set of TEA's, Absolutes..

I spent the money on MTI's stage 2, the stage 2 LS6 would be even better....but they are big bucks....but you will make mad power...with a X1 and those heads I went the time in my sig at a 3700 raceweight, and my car made 370rwhp through a TH400.....

Why would you not go with the heads that are designed for the G5X-2 to start with? I think everyone who knows what they are talking about on this board knows you have to match the heads to the cam to get the best results. Since Lou and his crew are pulling some of the highest numbers out of their combo, just stick with the heads from LGM as well.

Lou has been working with Jay at Absolute Speed on developing a head that's matched to the G5X2. IIRC, Jay calls it his S2.5 head. I'm honestly not sure what the differences are between a regular Absolute S2 and the S2.5, but a call to Jay should get you the answers that you're looking for.

Additionally, as flyn mentioned, LG has their own cylinder head program... the issue with those heads, though, is that lead time on them may be a couple of weeks or more. They DO work quite well, though, since that's what I have on my car... 440 RWHP through the full exhaust.

sound engineer--

not sure if you are m6 or a4. if you are a4 dyno again with your converter unlocked and that 380 will shrink too about 350..or would be like if your clutch was slipping beyond description if you're M6.

Bos' number through a stock trans would have been at least 400 rear wheel.

Yea, the TH400 sucks up close to 30% of the power I would say, but with the # I ran at the track, you can tell that it had power....

Now that I have a built bottom end with a blower on top of it I lose even more power through the TH400...probably close to 80-90rwhp when you get past the 550rwhp through the Th400...

got some ARE stage 2 heads that dynoed 436 rwhp with an X1 cam which is smaller than the G5x2. Email me at prietojr@hotmail.com for more details since I am trying to sell these heads at the moment and move onto a different setup. These heads are BAD *** and I am letting them go at a great price! Again, email me if any of you are interested!

I went 9.87 @ 138.9 with a 5.7 in my C5, G5X2 clone cam and our 5.3 Stg 1.5 heads. Has anyone gone faster with this cam then my TEA heads have gone? Just curious

Brian - What has it run on motor?

My understanding is Lou is using Absolute Speed heads as he gets fast turn around on them, and they are much more affordable than a set of fully hand ported heads, and I believe the numbers are where he wants them to be. My understanding is that the shop Lou uses for hand porting is in N. Carolina, and they focus on NASCAR type stuff. A set of hand ported heads takes several weeks depending on what the shop is doing.

You may wish to look at the the Patriot LS6 heads as they have full deck height and you wouldn't have to fly-cut for PTV. My understanding is the TSP 231/237 is very similar to the G5X2 spec wise and made 451 recently. So I'd consider those decent numbers also...

Nice Times. How much HP in nitrous were you running on that pass? I think you said in another post it was a 2 stage 250 + hp system ? ? How can ya drop a 9 sec time and without mentioning that much power adder. Still nice times though even with alot of nitrous.

That was with a TNT 150 wet and a purge seleniod hooked up to a NOS LT1 spray nozzle to make a 100 shot of dry, its a budget setup, I have less then $600 in the two nitrous systems. My car is in no way a quarter mile car. It has every factory installed option including CD player, 3.42 gear, stock harmonic balancer and not much convertor, it is a "true" street car. So when it ended up being the fastest stock displacement C5 in the country I figured something in there must be doing a good job. I am now in the process of installing LS6 heads though with bigger valves, that 9.87 pass was with the stock 1.55 exhaust valves. I would post my sig so that everyone could see my setup but I don't know how to make it come up.
You might want to know that in independent testing the LG heads (AS maybe?) made for that cam made no more power then our heads with that cam. In fact we have had Stg I heads and cam make almost as much power on that same dyno.
On our dyno there has only been one head that made more power then our 5.3 Stg 1.5 head with that cam and that was a Cartech Stg 2x LS6 head, it was 6 RWHP better. But I think that head sets you back about $4000 with castings, which, believe it or not, impressed me because we have seen some big name stuff in here, and some of it was LS6 heads, that did not make the power it should, (less then our 5.3 Stg 1.5 heads) so to actually see something be really good is refreshing.

That car will be dynoing again very soon with an electric water pump and some tuning tweaks that will put it well over the 451 it made initially!!

Hey Brian

Interesting info. Do you have any more details on this independant testing ? ( where? / Dyno #s Produced / Who did the tests )
I have a few friends that have your heads and are happy with them. I would love some more info on that testing though. Cartek packages and LG cars (Absolute or another head ) are making big power all around the country on all different dynos.

Thanks

Jeremy
