Default 6.0 oil pan question

I did a quick search with no luck , I have a lq4 engine and it came with the oil cooler lines on the oil pan , Im not using the oil cooler setup so can I just get the block-off plate and close up the holes without starving the engine for oil? Thanks for any help!

I'd say, NO! On non-coolered engines, the oil passes through a small bolt-on adapter. In one port, through the adapter, out the other port. You'll get no flow with it blocked.

from the looks of his sig id say its not going in an fbody......

if it needs to flow(im not for sure, id have to look) then you could cut the lines and hook them together rather than running them all the way up and back.

This is all wrong. You can plug that hole with a special adapter plate that you can order on your local GM spare parts dealer for truck with no oil cooling lines. We have done this many times when converting truck engines over to custom cars.

I wouldn't think this "adapter plate" actually plugs anything. The "car" style adapter is a pass-through. Think of it as a "U", oil goes in one end of the "U" and out the other. If either end were plugged...

Is that right and LQ4 oil pan won't fit in an F-body?

It doesn't matter if its plugged...you just don't have a oil cooler. Some trucks don't have them anyways. It doesn't affect anything inside the engine either way.

a LQ4/9 truck pan will "fit" any Ls style engine block....Its crossmember and ground clearance issues that make them not work for a different application..

To the OP...use the plate...you will be fine.

I just went out and look at the LQ4 oil pan is have for my 408 install I am planning. See the photo attached. I believe I see where the plate you mention would go. Just like the AIR or ERG block off plate would look. This makes sense.
So my bigger question is will I have any ground/crossmember clearance issues with my build using the LQ4 oil pan on my 98 fbody? Stock height nothing special with the suspension.

It will clear the crossmember... but it will sit about 1 inch from the ground. One good pot hole and its done. Use your 98' f-body pan....thats the only way to go.

Oh yeah! I was stationed at Ft. Drum (Watertown, N.y.) for a year. Roads up there were rough.

My 4.8 does not have an oil cooler, it is caped by gm with a block type plate so you can pick up that piece at a gm dealer and it will fit on the lq4 and you can even tap it for oil temp , the ls1 were taped for oil temp , Eric

Does anyone have the GM part number for the LQ4 oil line block-off plate?

12577903
gasket 12553210

Does anybody know the part no. for the one with the outlet already in it? Would save me the trouble of drill/ tapping for an oil pressure gauge.

This one is drilled and tapped to M12X1.5: 12551587

You'll probably have to re-drill/tap it to 1/8" NPT unless you can find an adapter for your oil pressure line.

gasket is the same: 12553210 bolts for it are: 11588714

if it has an oil cooler on it, the plate bolts are too long, you'll either need to cut yours down or buy the new ones listed above.
