need help with valve cover bolts by wednesday!

Default need help with valve cover bolts by wednesday!

taking everything off to put in new lifters and this happened. anybody who has an idea of what i can do can see the problem in the pic so i wont even say. do not want to buy new heads but if thats what i have to do... lifters are coming in on wednesday so i have a few days to think of something. need help with valve cover bolts by wednesday!-bolts.jpg

no. because (i havent even tried it) but im hoping the top of the bolt will screw back onto these kind as if these were meant to be stationary but idk if it will work.

nvm. wont work. can i go to any gm dealership and get two of these bolts?

how did those 2 bolts break? were you using hand tools, a ratchet & socket?

just trying to learn from your experience

well heres the thing, i never knew that that bolts only had to be torqued very little so i would always tighten them real right (didnt want oil leaking out! ) and it just so happened that this time (with socket wrench and socket) it was tough, a pop, then real loose. the long one i grabbed with vise grips and twisted out and then with the smaller one, you can notice if you look close in the pic, i got a size smaller socket, hammered it on and broke it free. i went to a dealership and the two bolts cost almost $10. so everyone- THESE ONLY NEED TO BE A LITTLE MORE THAN SNUG!

Torque specs are your freind and they are readily available. It only takes a minute to read them for the various bolts, and even if you don't use a torque wrench, you at least get an idea of how tight they should be. I make it a habit of always pulling the torque spec sheet for the job I am about to do.

Glad you got them out, and hopefully avaluable lesson learned.

next time make sure to calibrate your elbow between rounds of the head bolts to these valve cover bolts...
