Default possibly a noob question about LS1 heads on an LQ4...

This might be a straight up noob question, but I was looking on Summit's site looking for engine gasket sets and noticed a different part number for LS1 head gaskets and LS2 head gaskets, because of the bigger bore in the 6.0L blocks. Then it dawned on me, that I may have to get some machine work done on stock LS1 heads to fit on a 6.0 truck block? And what head gaskets will I need if I do put LS1 heads on a 6.0 truck LQ4?

You always use the bore size gasket, since the pistons extend out of the bore some .010"

No machine to put LS1 heads on a LQ4. I have 5.3 heads on my LQ4.

Will the compression be higher with LS1 heads on a 6.0 block?

Hmm, now that's something to think about. I kind of wanted to keep the compression down in case I want some goodies later down the road.

LS1 heads w/ stock gasket will yield 10:1 compression nearly stock LS1 (10.1:1).

Use a thinner gasket and mill them a bit to get 10.5-10.8:1

Use 5.3 heads w/ a .040 gasket and get 11.1:1

if you want to keep your compression a little lower you could use some 6.2 mls gaskets. they are five layered mls head gaskets.

I'm going for the cheap setup right now. I'll probably change heads later down the road. I'm sticking a Texas Speed cam kit in it for now.
