Do New LS6 Longblocks Have Piston Slap/Oil Consupt. Issues?
My ls1 has a knocking right now (rod or bearing issue) and I'm thinking of upgrading to an ls6 longblock. Of course I've been reading about piston slap issues in the '01 and '02 ls1 and ls6's, so I was wondering if GM solved the problem and if I buy a new ls6 longblock, is it possible that I might have a piston slap issue? Also, do the ls6 longblocks have the infamous oil consumption issues solved?
My ls1 is a '98, so I never had the piston slap or oil consuption sissue, but I sure don't want it either if I upgrade to an '03 ls6.

My guess would be that GM is too cheap to have recalled the engines with piston slap issues and that they just corrected the problem with engine built after that. So I'd say that build date and not year of engine are the most important factors.

Yeah, most of the Piston slap and oil consumption was in '01 (lots of consumption from most of the LS6 motots that year). '02 had a few problems but I think for the most part it was corrected. I have an '03 LS6 with 1700 miles and no sign of oil consumption or piston slap yet.

OIl consumption was due to 2 factors:
1- PCV setup on LS1
2- piston ring blowby at WOT (Under load)
You can cure both on your LS1.
As for slap, since I changed to shaft mounted Comp rockers, it's gone (H/C swap)EXPENSIVE (925.00$) but worth it. I also read that Yella Terras cure that too.
