Default suggestions for cam/heads for street car

I have really been playing with the idea of a cam/head swap for my Z28 and I have never really learned much about this. I read the sticky and a good chunk of it made sense, but I'm still unsure about what to go with.

Current mods:
SLP lid
K&N
MSD wires
FTRA
Hooker ceramic headers
ORY
Corsa catback
Predator tune

The car is an A4, so eventually I will get a converter, but that's probably at least a year away. I would want something done on a somewhat tight budget, but I don't mind paying for something that works and will perform well.

Has anyone tried the Trickflow packages that Summit has? They didn't look like a bad deal. Anyway, any advice would be appreciated!

I'd like something in the 400-450 range, really don't race the car much, I just want a fun street car. I would be more concerned with mid rang torque, as I auto X the car. The budget needs to stay under $2500 for everything

well, the $2500 is really just for cam and heads, I understand there will be gaskets, pushrods, throttle body, rockers etc....

Besides gaskets & misc items you may have lifters, rockers, pushrods, timing set, oil pump, underdrive pulley, water pump, etc....see how it adds up quickly! Cam will be $400 and heads are all over the board. I budgeted $5000 for my head/cam/intake complete with doing my own labor!

Yeah if you pick a cam that will work with your stock stall, I would guess you would be changing it again in a year. So go for the converter first, I was thinking about doing a cam and waiting on stall, but I said screw it and bought the stall today, and TSP is working me up a price for all the goodies I want from them.

this is a great way to go, think about this option. A cam and stall will get you better results than h/c and no stall.

400hp is not hard to attain with cam only.

i just quickly priced a package at TSP

stg 1 ls6 heads
228r cam
upgraded springs
upgraded timing chain
upgraded oil pump

$1,881

add $280 for a deluxe bolt/gasket kit

425rwhp should not be a problem.

this assumes you have things like lid, intake, headers and exhaust.

save up a few more bucks and you have yourself enough for a higher stall converter
