Default Is LS1 crank weaker than LQ9 crank?

I've seen the LS1 cranks have a gun drilled portion to lighten them. My machine shop has a nice LS1 crank for my build but I wanted to be sure that it is every bit as strong as a non-drilled LQ9 version. Its part number 12552216 FWIW. Thanks.

i know the general consensus is ls1 cranks are plenty good enough for 1000 horsepower... Havnt seen to much comparing them to the lq9/4 though... Id say the lighter ls1 crank will be more reliable if your going to rev it high. How much power are you looking to make?? Might be worth it for you to just step up to a forged possibly STROKED crank

Don't have the funds for an aftermarket crank, don't have a turbo big enough to handle more than 370 cubes. I don't see myself exceeding 1000 flywheel hp.

It's the same crank. FWIW That number listed ( 12552216 ) is the casting number not the part number. They both have the same casting number, the only difference is the LS1 has 1 inch Gundrilled hole through the center of the mains and the Balance for the specific rotating assembly.
Good luck !!!
