Default Split second oil pressure drop WOT

I have noticed the last few times i have taken my Z on a spirited ride that the oil pressure will zip down to about 25 and right back up to 60 when i am WOT.

Everything else seems to be okay, 50k motor with a cam.

Of course, this is the reading i am getting from the dash, so the sender may be the culprit, just looking for other reasons why this would occur.

Thanks

Tim

mine was doin this a few weeks ago. my oil pressure used to sit around 60 or so cruisin and shoot to 80 at WOT, but then all the sudden for a few weeks it would do a sudden drop and then shoot back up, i also noticed my oil pressure was a lil low so i changed the oil/filter and it hasnt done it since? dont know if it will work for you but id give it a try, it could also be your oil pump tho?

What was the oil level like? These engines are prone to oil consumption. If you are slowly losing oil, acceleration in 1st or 2nd gear might be enough to slosh oil away from the pickup without showing a low oil level light.

I noticed it once before, and I've been more diligent about checking the oil level since, at least until I get around to modding the PCV.

Run 7 quarts of oil. Been doing this a while and had the same issue. Oil is not returning fast enuff and your are seeing slight pump cavitation.

I have a LS6 oil pump i believe.

I am going to change the oil and see what happens, its time anyways. I never thought about running extra oil.

While you have the cam out is the best time to upgrade the pump, Or it you have high mileage. And need to upgrade the timing chain also.
