3k in engine???
I mite az well spend some cash, whats the best combo you guys would reccomend if you only had 3K to spend?, exclude driveline, thats allready spoken for!, I plan to run a 150 or higher shot to make some serious numbers, I'd like to go turbo if I can get the extra green, but dont add that to the bill, nor the n2o, just internals, like, cam (specs), pistons, rods, springs, rockers, heads, what kind of set up would you put on if you had to do it again, or that you're allready happier than **** with!, add alot of detail!, just trying to crunch the numbers, also exclude about 200 in gaskets and oil and ect...
edit: just read the post realizing around 2k just for heads, so make it 4K total

Re: 3k in engine???
Im building a pretty stout H/C 347 for around $4k +/- including machine work and balancing.
The majority of the parts are coming from TSP.
I would have bought all the damn parts by now if the bank wouldn't take their time with giving me some $$$$

That's a pretty good deal. I just built a short block for a little less, but you would get some insurance buying from MTI.
Here's a break out of what I spent:
- Iron 6.0L block - $450 (no machining - stock 4" bore)
- Stock 5.7L crank (new) - $350
- Eagle H-Beam rods with ARP bolts - ~$500
- Forged pistons w/rings - $700
- Balance rotating assembly - variable, but t was $120 for me
- Bearings (all) - ~$250
So you can see parts alone can run over $2k. I could have bored the iron block .030 over for a 370cid, but saved the cash and got a good deal on 4-inch bore pistons. I ended up with a 6.0L motor (364cid) capable of 200-250hp shots of the gas. If it were built with lower compression, then it would handle 15 psi with no problem.
So the MTI 346 deal is pretty good, and you don't get dirty

Re: 3k in engine???
I got a pretty good deal through Speed Inc. when I did my motor, I went the iron block route which is a little more expensive, but the aluminum block w/stock crank was in the $3k range, so far my 6.0L motor is rock solid...

Re: 3k in engine???
^that sounds good, how much more $$ would it take to finish the engine (heads/cam ect ect)- providin one has no core.
(as in a v6-v8 conversion)

$3K is a bunch of $!
You can get SDPC ported ls6 heads, a cam, oil pump, timing chain, hardned pushrods for that dough and have some left over.... SDPC------>

Do it right the first time. Forged rods/pistons, then do the H/C of choice. Remeber, you pay for what you get.

Re: 3k in engine???
Don't forget guys, with most of the aluminum block shortblocks that price is before the core charge. With an iron block there is no core, so it is more expensive up front, but if you sell your stock motor after you get your new one, it nets you about the same.

MTI 370 cid Iron shortblock---3995
MTI 347 cid Aluminum shortblock- 2995 (plus core or $1000)
One weighs more, but the otherhas .3l of displacement over the other.
any other downfall to the iron block? let's say..Rev-wise?
is there any problem with the iron shortblock using stock aluminum heads? (better yet ls6 heads lol)
