cam questions
I've got a 4.8 truck that is just sad. I've found a LS1 shortblock that has everything but the heads for 400. I want to put the ls1 in my truck and use my 4.8 heads and intake, I have a DBW throttle body. Anyway, I figured I might as well change the cam while it was out. So, my question is, is there that much difference between a lq4/lq9 cam and a ls6 cam besides the price? If i do a lq4 cam would i need to change my springs/rockers/pushrods/ exc? I'm just trying to save some money, and make my truck more valueable my putting in the ls1. I need more cheap than performance, but if its cheap enough i might throw out a few extra dollars from my motorcycle fund to get some more pep.

The '99-'00 LQ4 cam is the same as the '00-'04 4.8 cam. 191/190 duration, .457/.466 lift, 114 lobe sep.
The '01-'04 LQ4 cam is the same as the '02-'03 LQ9 cam, and the '01-'02 Z28/Formula/TransAm. It's not much bigger at 196/207, .467/.479, 116.
The '01 LS6 cam is 204/211, .525/.525, 116, while the '02-'04 LS6 cam is 204/218, .555/.551, 117.5
In an '01 5.3, the '02-'04 LS6 cam is down 21 ft-lbs at 2500 rpm, and doesn't equal until 3900 rpm. Fine if you're getting a stall converter, the LS6 cam is 36 ft-lbs better at 5500 rpm.
