Default More info on the Gen IV

From Rick Daniel

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have some news for you from an Australian magazine called MOTOR.
In the October issue of this year an article was written about the Gen IV engine details and capacities to be released.

"General Motors executive Gary Cowger couldn't stop himself from bragging about Chevrolet's new Gen IV V8 engine. Sources within GM Powertrain have admitted to 6.0-litre and 6.2-litre capacities, but Cowger let slip that GM has also concocted a 406 cubic inch (6.7 litre) Gen IV V8.
The cubically colossus Gen IV is planned for release in the redesigned Corvette (C6) next May, initially. The engine will be built in limited numbers only - around 3000 a year for the high-performance Z06-spec Corvette as an answer to the new Dodge Viper. From there, the 6.7-litre aluminium V8 could find a home at HSV, possibly in a GTS-spec all-wheel-drive model. Cowger gave no hard facts about the engine other than its capacity.
However, insiders at GM Powertrain talk freely about the Gen IV's improvements, mainly those to the valvetrain, cylinder heads and intake manifold. The Gen IV V8 has been substantially improved and will develop more power per litre than the current Gen III V8.
Roughly figuring 53kW/litre, the big V8 could quite easily max out at 360kW, probably more.
Bore and stroke are hard to call, but 101.5mm bore and 103mm stroke as near as dammit to 406ci. As for torque, the long stroke will strong arm about 650Nm." - Todd Hallenbeck

This is an email I received.

360 kW is 482 hp.

650 Nm is 479 lb-ft.

Info like this sure makes it hard to plop down $5k on a new shortblock right now. I wonder if these blocks will be cross compatible (with some other parts of course) with some of our current LS1 stuff.

I really hope the blocks are interchangable. I was hoping for a 4.125 bore and 3.62 stroke as the rumored 6.3L.

In any event, I'll probably buy a C6/Z06 in a few years.
