They are all replaced by the same part number now. You would figure working at a dealership they would know that though. You too

John,

speaking of lifters, I am considering the "Cadillac Hydro Race" lifter.

My application is a dedicated, trailerd, drag race engine with a custom drag race grind cam. Expected upper RPM is about 7400 - 7500. For that combination, is the race lifter a valid - reasonable upgrade?

Thanks

Well, it would be an upgrade...but I would not recommend them at this time. As was spoken before, the morels are a very good way to go. Either that or the Comp lifters. There have been a few issues, and as im sure you all notice, forums blow them out of proportion. I mean my cousin's wife's uncle's dog never bought those lifters. That is completely wrong. I do have some of the morels on hand, (branded as lunati). I can get you a price tomorrow.

Sounds like he and the dealership does know that, he just wants to know why everybody buys ls7 lifters, if they are exactly the same as every other factory lifter.

My guess would be that they are all LS7 lifters now. They are not the same as the stock lifters that cam in a 97-04 LS1

It is simply called the LS7 lifter because the current lifter was implemented on the LS7. At that time, the older ones were all changed to the newer LS7 lifter part number. You just use the name that is recognized as the newest update and replacement.

...and the hype of internet forums also adds to their mystic abilities. Heck the same lifter is also used for a replacement part for the 3800 Buick engine. Durability at its finest.
