Default patriot vs. afr heads

Im looking at getting either patriot or afr heads. I know that patriot heads are a lot less than afr heads price wise. Now what is the difference in HP?!?

It is like comparing a donkey to a horse. AFRs are pure thoroughbreds. It is not only a matter of power, but efficiency, throttle response, torque, and quality. AFR 205s are one of the best aftermarket grinds to date for street use.

What are your goals and list of mods, cam etc...

Bang for the buck i.e. $ per horsepower, Patriot is hard to beat, but when you've done everything else and you're looking for that last 20 horsepower, you might wish you had spent the extra money. You could always try buying a clean set of used Patriots and try them out. If you don't get where you want with them, you can sell them for a small loss if any and step up to the TFS or AFR's

i'm kinda in the same boat. i want some heads, but i'm not sure that the TFS, or AFR's are worth the extra 1000 to 1500 bucks.

Best budget head is Patriot and PRC. They produce amazing flow and actually outflow the afr in most spots .

although some of the other heads may outflow the afr's,they dont have the cross section or port volume as small as the afr's.The end result -the afr's will always make more power over the patriot/prc.Not only that but throttle response and midrange torque from the afr's is better.like the other guys have said,if the extra 15-20hp is worth the extra money,is up to you

Have them flowed by an independant bench, and report the results. And just because you hog a casting out so it can move some air doesn't mean it will make good power.

No comparison between the two. AFRs will make more power across the board, better throttle response, better efficiency (less spark advance needed), etc...

Although, I also like the ETP215 heads.

The PRC215 is an aftermarket casting. The cost is nowhere near the Patriot's. The PRC215 is competition to the AFR, TFS heads; it's not a budget head. PRC does offer lower cost ported stock GM castings. IMO, PRC will offer the best quality and power per dollar. No matter what your budget, high or low, PRC has a product that will work best for you.

JW, but what's your reason behind that? Won't the 5.3 stage 2.5 heads flow somewhere close, and maintain better torque down low due to the shorter runners?

im also in the same boat. ill looking at doing heads here shortly. i know the AFR are one of the best if not the best. but ive seen some great #'s lately with those patriot heads. i think speed inc did a H/C car with patriots that put down 45x range i think... i mean its tough to beat 1200 bucks shipped assembled with double valve springs.

If Patriot ever gets the Predator heads done, those should be really close to AFRs, and still be like $500 less
