It's the alignment pin for the cam gear. When you put it together you will need to insure that the hole and it are lined up to get cam timed correctly.Does the cam look ok and is it not dinged up maybe it got droped and broke the pin.

the rest of the cam looks flawless, it just looks like whatever is in that 4th hole is snapped off at an angle

Like magic man said their is a pin that sticks out about a 1/4". You need that so the cam gear is not misaligned.

Here's a pic of the pin...http://www.ls1howto.com/howto/fbody/...basecircle.jpg

This might help you with the cam install http://www.ls1howto.com/index.php?article=23

So now that it's been established the 4th hole next to the 3 10mm cam bolt holes on the front of the cam is the alignment dowel/pin, and it is indeed broken/snapped off as per my pics, What will it take to get this fixed so I can install it this summer? I will not attempt to drill it myself, I am a noob. price to get this remedied? easy fix? payed 300 including overnight shipping for this.

Thanks guys.

I got the same prob, took the sprocket off and bam the pin became 2 pieces..looks exactly like your pic..it's a common thing from the searching I did. I got a new pin from GM for like 4 bucks but I haven't had luck getting the old one out, the pin is VERY hard steel, centerpunching and drilling it didn't make a dent in it, I didn't exactly use the best drill bits but still should have made a dent. I used a hardened steel punch to try and knock it out through the rear end of the hole the pin is in, I hit it with some GOOD hits and it didn't budge..

I was debating on trying to hit the current pin more in the hole and shove the new pin in in front of it....as long as there's no step that's behind that current pin to prevent it from moving in further, which I don't think there is? it should work, looks like there's plenty of room behind it....

Let me know what you end up doing

Thanks guys for your input, guess I better try and find a local machine shop, idk...There are next to no Fbody educated anythings out here, I am afraid I won't even be able to get a good tune, this is literally ricetown although any good machine shop should do right? 5 hondas for every 1 person I was thinking of buying a replacement:I think it has to be from comp cams since this is a tsp cc, or the dealer and press it in myself rather than trust some "vtec wizzard" with anything going into my ls1.

This just delays my first cam project longer

I've had to fix that problem on a new hemi which is pretty similar. Drill a small hole in the pin then screw in a drywall or self tapping sheetmetal screw then use a pair of dikes (wire cutters) to leverage it out.
