Default How can I tell what valve springs are on my AFR's?

Been doing a load of research on my SS trying to figure out some stuff about it and one of the last mysteries is determining what valve spring the heads have. Part # on the heads is 00005583 and AFR claims they were sold with AFR 8017 spring (which is all AFR was using at the time 4 years ago) rated @ .600" with titanium retainers, blah blah but may have been changed after the fact. I have decided on building a different setup and am re-using these heads but the cam has more lift than .600".

Is their a way to tell visibly if it has upgraded .650/.660 springs? I also can remove a spring if needed. Thanks

I am not sure how to tell, but It is probably better to assume they are original and go with some new Patriot Gold Duals, they are only $255 with everything needed, and you have piece of mind.

I would not install Patriot Golds on these heads. There is a way to tell, Tony Mamo can tell you if you send him a PM. He posted it once but the search function doesn't appear to be working correctly. The 8019's will drop in if the heads currently have the 8017 base spring. Personally, I would start with fresh springs anyhow if it is a new build.

the 8019 upgrade springs are thicker wire dia and the inner spring sits higher than the outside before installed.

where as the 8017 both springs are about the same.

the 8019's are good to .650 lift. you need to get them from afr. i think they are around 250 a set.

I called and talked to tony and he told me what ht to install them at for my cam

The 8019's are excellent springs, reasonably priced and he already has the correct seats, retainers and locks. There are other reasons but I don't want to post them.
