Default Oil pouring out rear of motor. HELP!!!!

I have a 2001 LS1 camaro that was removed and installed new cam and springs. I had to replace the rear cover due to my flex plate cracking and eating the rear of the block. I replaced the rear seal and rear cover gasket. I put the motor back together and started the car today and after about 20 sec of running I noticed oil pouring out the back of the motor. I lost about 1qt of oil and shut the motor down due to the oil lose.

My question is do you think its the seal that is causing this or could it be something else. HELP Please!!!!! I will be pulling the trans tomorrow and just need to know where to look.

Thanks!!!!

it could be the rear main if its not seated right. and if you put it on backwards it will leak like that. and also did you put the two bottom bolts in and torque them down right. i would take the cover back off reinstall new gaskets and check everything. make the rear main is in right and i know that you dont have to put rtv along the bottom of the cover but i did just to cover my ***. sry but i can honestly say i know how you feel. i replaced my gaskets twice in week just find out that all that work and i got a bad pressure plate. haha sucks

It can leak quite a bit out of the back of the valve cover gaskets. If you were a 1/2 quart low already... I don't know. That's quite a bit.

If you have an M6, the other thing that can leak pretty bad is the rear oil galley plug behind the throw out bearing.

But yeah, I'd guess the seal.

Did you put silicone on the rear cover down by the oil pan? As mentioned, oil will leak bad out of the valve covers, in the rear, if the seal is pinched, or has come out of the grove.

I have a A4 car. The heads are clean and from what I could feel from behind the heads it was all dry and no oil coming out.

I think it has to be the rear seal and I'm sure I didnt put the rear seal on backwards but I will be pulling the trans and checking it all to find out whats wrong.

I will be having a great Easter pulling a trans!!!! Which sucks!!!!!

Default Rear Cover

Yes!!!!! The rear cover didnt seal right due to differant style rear cover used. After replacing the bolts with stock bolts and not after market bolts no more problems!!!! Now I'm having rocker problems (which I think the bearings are going bye bye) and oil pressure problems!!!! Never ending!!!!!

I think i might have found where mine is coming from. Believe it or not, i thinks its leaking from the damn dipstick tube. I pulled it and the gasket is all jacked up. There is no oil on my flywheel or backside of the motor. It only comes out when i go WOT. Im going to put it all back together this weekend and see if that cures my problem. Glad you got yours taken care of!!
