Default Whirring & Depressurizing sounds after starting

I want to say it happens more often when I haven't driven the car at all for about 8-12 hours, but I have heard it after having the car off for only an hour before...

I'll start the ignition, and there's a very very feint whirring noise. I can barely hear it above the engine noise from inside the car. Absolutely can't hear it if I'm outside the car. It'll last anywhere between 3-6 minutes. Afterwards, there's a quick depressurization type of sound (also very feint). 1 second, "psssssseeeeeeeeeeeww."

It started after I got into an accident involving a snow bank. Nothing enginewise was affected (as far as the insurance or mechanic/bodyshop was concerned). They replaced front suspension, front wheels, bumper, that general area. But after picking it up, I started noticing this sound.

Any ideas on what it might be?

The AIR pump runs for a few minutes to help heat the cats and then shuts off, that is the sound you are hearing. It may not have been working or the pump may be noisy after the accident. It's located in the left front in front of the radiator support.

Thanks for the replies! So, is that a normal sound? If it's not, is there anything to do to fix it, or do I just replace it?

Have you checked the trunk for a flux capacitor? GM had a lot of mid-year model changes.

normal. even if it was on its way out, it is useless and you're probably better off.

the air injection system is an emissions device that basically just dumps air into your exhaust manifolds to burn any unburnt fuel before it goes out the tailpipes. it has no effect on performance.

well, this clears things up. I have that sound too... i was starting to worry about it, but now i will just drive, and enjoy. Although my car has never been in an accident, is it still normal?
