Default ls6 cam

I have a 2000 trans am with 126k miles () which has an oil leak on the front of the motor that keeps killing the alternator. I am thinking that it is the front seal or timing cover. I just did a cam swap on my 04 z06 so I have all the stock stuff left over, springs, seals, push rods, cam, retainers, etc. I have read where the ls6 cam is a smaller base circle and needs longer push rods, but I have all this stuff free so whould It hurt anthing to just use the ls6 push rods for a while? in a couple months Im gonnna get some new heads for my z06 and will be putting the 243s on the trans am and don't wanna buy push rods for no reason if I could get around it.

Thanks for the help,
David

Did a little searching but didn't come up with much. Everyone says use longer push rods. I won't hurt anything for just running the ls6 push rods for a few months right? Also are the ls6 push rods the same length. Came out of a 04 z06

your valves in your ls6 head's are longer than a ls1.
people use longer pushrods in ls1's to make up the difference when using a ls6 cam.

you really need to get an adjustable pushrod to really find out which length you need.

Yeah but I am trying to avoid spending money on push rods that when in a couple of months when I swap the heads on my z06 I can put the ls6 heads on it, rendering the push rods I just bought useless. And I can't just wait because the trans am is sitting broke and If I am going through the work of pulling the balancer and timing cover to replace gaskets ima swap the cam while I am at it.

I would spend the 20 bux on a checker and the 100 for the proper pushrod. If it were, I would rather have the peace of mind knowing that they are right

Yeah if it was going to be a long term thing then I deff would, I just hate to spend 100 bucks on push rods that will be nothing but a paper weight in a couple months when I put the 243s on there

Too bad the search function doesn't work anymore. Luckily, I researched this in depth before it crapped out.

Of course the best method to chose pushrods is check the length. I did the math on using the 04 Z06 cam in an LS1 with stock 241 heads, and the ideal push rod length is 7.425. However, lots of guys have used the stock 7.400 pushrods in your setup with good results.

Should be o.k. for the time being. When you put the 04 Z06 heads on, 7.400 will be perfect (naturally).

Pulled everything apart and am putting it back together now, oil all over the driver side of the motor beside the timing cover under the water pump. When I took one of the bolts out holding the cover on oil came out of the hole and when I got the gasket off you can see where oil was leaking past it. Passenger side beside the cover was clean as it could be. I guess I found my problem . I dreaded putting that oil pump on. Hope I didn't screw up the o ring. Was suprised at how little slop there was in the stock timing chain. Way less than my 86 vette with 100k miles. That thing was rediculously loose.

I won't need a tune with this cam will I? Just don't wanna loose #7 due to lean condiction. I still have stock manifolds and cats so I think I should be fine right?

I was going to say you can always sell the PR's.... someone is always looking for them on here. Your best bet is to do a tune like with anything.
