Question 98 LS1 block-Advice

Well I have an 98 Camaro SS that has full bolt-ons, 228R cam, PT 4000, 3.73 gears, and a tune. Last time I went to the track I was able to get an 11.91 at 114 with a 1.63 60' with a little help from Mickey 315's out back on 17x9.5 ZR1's all the way around. My question is since I have the worst block that u can get in a ls1 is it worth doing heads on this block? I have read that the oil passages are not good enough and that my lifters will fail caused by the lack of oil? Any thoughts?

Interesting. We have used 98 blocks in builds with no issues. We just use a 3.903 hone instead of 3.905 due to thinner sleeves. As for simply bolting on a set of heads, I know of people doing this without issue.

Tatasta I know I can buy better lifters. I'm worried because I have read that the 98 blocks have "shallow oil transfer galleys at the rear of the block that limits equal flow of oil to the main lifter oil galleys." But thanks for the info everyone I feel a lot more confident when I put some heads on it.
