Rebuild Vs New

Rebuild Vs New
my ls1 is sitting around 101k miles and now I'm starting to think about rebuilding the engine or buying a bigger motor like ls2 or ls3. I know 101k is not bad but it will take me bit time to save up enough money to do either. (married w/2 kids in the military) I just want to see what people's opinion is about the two. I kind of want to stick with the ls1 but i don't know how reliable it would be after a rebuild because I've seen rebuilt engines take a **** with low mileage.

LOL, with a proper rebuild it will last a long time but the question is will you be happy with the same power level after spending the money?
A bigger engine will cost a little more but also give you more power so it's something to think about. You can go to a 383 with your current LS1 during a re-build and get more cubes for less money than going to an LS2 or LS3.

^^ Agreed but not for cheaper than using the block he already has. I mean if he can find a 6.0 at the junkyard for $100 then go for it !!! But if he is not looking to make 600 rwhp then a 383 is a good way to get more power and save some coin as he already has a block to use.

going to 383 sounds like a good idea...nothing is wrong with my motor as of now. well see once i rebuild the motor i would feel a lot safer using forced induction...that was pretty much the plan if i was to rebuild the motor.

if you sell the ls1 as a longblock you would be able to use the money to get a 6.0 and put the rest towards a 408. that way you wont have to sell the stock rods, pistons, and crank for next to nothing.

This guy has what you need and you have what he needs.Maybe you could help him out.I've always thought it a shame to pull apart a good running motor.
