Default Question about new motor for the car

Here's my situation...

I have a 2002 Camaro Z28 M6. I recently pulled the motor to go with something with larger cubes. I had been pricing out forged shortblocks from LME and HKE and I realized that I really don't know if it's necessary for me to go with a forged motor. I'm not going to be spraying but maybe about 100 shot and I'm only shooting for 550 RWHP. I had an LS3 427 priced out and it came up to $5300 for just the shortblock. Ouch. Especially for me only wanting about 550 out of it. I wouldn't even need to spray on it to achieve that out of the 427. So it seems to be a waste to go all forged. I don't want a race car here. I just want a low 11 second car, high 10 on the spray. I want it to be something that I can just drive and not worry about. Something reliable. Again, I'm not going to be abusing it with high boost or N20. Mainly N/A with a little shot of nitrous.

So...

I was looking through SDPC at the crate motors. Most of the crate motors are about as much as the shortblock was...

What do you guys think? What would be my best avenue to achieve my goals. Is it worth it to go all forged given my goals for the car?

Thanks

I was looking at the LS3 crate engine. $6100. Selling the stock H/C/I and swapping in aftermarket. Should get me mid 400's to the tire. Then spray 100 shot and I'll be right where I want to be.

I dont think you would need to go all forged unless your boosting. LS3 would be ok I guess.

X2 I was thinking of spraying my LS1 after heads/cam and my mech said up to and no more than a 100 shot would be fine. Also make sure the tune is done correctly by some one VERY experienced the LS engines have a bad habit of droping that #7 cylinder w/ a bad nitrous set up.
