Default What did everyone use to seal their rocker bolts with?

I'm still seeing some blue smoke at startup and sometimes even at idle since the heads install. I hope the rocker bolts not sealed is the problem and will fix the oil burning?

Thanx...

Rocker bolts sprayed cleaned of oil with brake cleaner. Heads were new, so the rocker bolt holes did not need cleaning.

Good amount of black silicone sealant on the intake rocker bolt threads and install.

No oil burning at all ...

Anything that comes in contact with fluids,(gaskets, bolts, etc) I use Hylomar. It withstands all automotive fluids except Nitro.

im curious to the answer to this as well

when i did mine i used black high temp rtv

is it better to put the rtv on the threads of the bolt itself, or put some in the bolt hole in the head?

Yes you want to put the silicone on the threads of the bolt.

Permatex thread sealant with teflon. Part# 80632. Use it on pinion splines to prevent leaks also.

I didn't use anything, and I don't have oil issues. Have you tried a catch filter inline on the pcv line?

Yes, you should put some in the bolt hole too. This will insure that the silicone doesn't get wiped from the bolt threads as you intall it. Black silicone works fine.

ARP teflon thread sealant(paste/white tube) works best for me. Not sure I'd use RTV. It'll work but tends to tear/disinograte after curing when removing bolts... possibly leaving little bits and pieces of itself in the bolt bosses and possibly intake ports.

Loctite PST Teflon thread sealant. It cured my oil consumption problems. I agree with LowEtz about RTV.
