It will botl right in, just reuse the coolant sensor (or get a new 1998 one) and drill out a boss on the LQ4. The crank is the same as the LS1, since both engines are Gen3. Gen4 had the different crank (LS2).

To mate the TH400, you will only use five bolts, three on the driver's side and two on the passenger's side. You can either get a custom LSx/TH400 converter or use an SBC converter for the TH400 with spacers (mount bolts and hub). This is what I did on our 1998 Z28 with an LQ4 backed a TH400.

I just finished putting a 6.0L iron blocked 408 in my car. Only difference is there is one hole missing on the 6.0L block for one of the alternator bolts. You can drill and tap the block for it, but it's not absolutely necessary. Other than that, all of the accessories and everything else are the same as the '98.

Coolant temp sensor goes in the front of the drivers side head, so not sure why that would be an issue with an LQ4 block?

so this should be a pretty straight foward swap i take it. any difference between the lq4 or lq9/ any advantages? i plan on camming it up. how much cam will it tolerate before fly cutting pistons become an issue? any particular grind that is pretty stout? not looking for a drag only grind but also dont want a peach fuzz cam
