Drop the oil pan and get a magnet tool. Good luck. It ain't gonna be fun. The $32 worth of magnet tools per jMx's website (ls1howto.com) is worth the extra expense. Just some FYI for future reference.

There's really no quick way. You should really take your time on this and settle in for a long haul. If you rush anything you can miss/skip things and end up paying for it BIGTIME in the end. I believe you must lower the K-Member some to get access to all the oil pan bolts. Then when you get them out and remove the lifters you'll have to make sure you install the pan very carefully. You'll want to be sure it all lines up properly or you'll have an oil leak.

It should be possible but how are you going to lift the motor? Are you using a hoist to lift and hold it in place?

Just got done doing this yesterday.... did'nt have to raise the engine.... loosened all oil pan bolts (including trans bolts) and got a pen magnent between the crank counter weights and the windage tray and pulled the lifter out...wasn't that hard just time consuming...PM me if you have any questions..

if you were doing a heads and cam swap why didnt you move the heads first and then take out the lifters so that they wouldnt have fallen down. would of been quicker and you could of removed the cam without worry.

glad you got them out though. i used the pen magnets with my cam swap. im in the middle of a head swap as we speak.

Lesson: "Never, ever trust Murphy". Glad to hear it's working out. Pulling the oil pan is not an easy thing to do.
