Default New motor, how long to see oil pressure?

Should I be able to crank it for awhile and see oil pressure? Or does it need to be running?

Gotcha. I had cranked it for about 5 seconds and was a little worried the gauge still read zero. Definitely don't want to hurt anything.

I had to crank mine a good 30 seconds after a head/cam/oil pump swap before seeing any pressure on the gauge. When cranking, I disconnected the fuel pump and had no spark plugs in to make it easier to turn over. I wiped the cylinder walls down with assembly lube when putting everything back together.

Your gauge might not show anything while cranking, keep that in mind. Mine did not and I did 3 10-12 second bursts. Soon as we plugged in the injectors it fired right up and immediately had 60+psi.

Leave out the spark plugs so it's easier for the starter to turn the engine as it won't be working against the compression. It'll seem like an eternity, but it will take a good 30 seconds. It will build fast once you start seeing pressure.

same here about 30 sec, remember to take out the fuel pump relay and disconnect the coil harness on both sides.

Now think about what would have happened if you had not gotten oil pressure. Your engine would have been running with no oil.

X2 Same issue here, nothing on the gauge, none of the gauges on my cluster work while starting the car. Once running however, it instantly had 60+
