Question 98 LS1 heads to 00 LS1 block

I have asked a few people this question (even asked Lloyd). Its a simple question but its a head scratcher. Do you have to use the head gaskets for the 98 LS1 to 00 LS or is it the other way around? There is a small insertion on the outer bottom edge of one of the cylinder heads that the 00 block does not have. I like many other people ask, WHY? But if anyone knows the answer it sure would be help full. I'm trying to figure what gaskets to use.

I think what you are talking about on the heads is what's commonly refered to as "the notch". You will need to use the '98 style graphite gaskets for those heads.

Correct. The head dictates what gasket you have to use. If your head has the half-hex notch cast out of the deck, you must use the graphite gasket or a gasket with a seal around this area.
