Default Question about lifter preload and pushrod length???

Hey all,
Just installed a cam for my turbo setup and I believe my pushrods are a bit short... There is a crazy amount of valvetrain noise now.. I Guess I should of done it right and got a checker to make sure everything was right.. o well live and learn.. anyways Would it be possiable to check for the correct length like this....
Rotate crank till rocker comes off its lobe
Put in 7.4 pushrod
Put on rocker until it wont wiggle anymore
Setup up dial indicator set to 0
Torque down rocker and see what indicator say then add or subtract to push rod size for correct preload?

Basically yes. If you get the cylinder to TDC so the lifters are on the base circle (not sure what you mean by off its lobe in your post), then remove the rocker and re-tighten to just get to zero lash you can measure preload with a dial indicator on the top of the pushrod cup with the dial indicator aligned with the pushrod. Then tighten the rocker and let it settle. If you find you have 0.025 and need 0.050 you know you need a 0.025" longer pushrod.
