Always sonic test the block. I'd suggest a minimum wall thickness of .100". A customer recently did this with a 5.3l. He overbored the block .120" and he ended up with a min. wall thickness of .115". Still some room for another bore.
I can't comment on the addition of the 4" stroke crank, but I don't think it would take much machining if any to fit the 5.3l block.
One things for sure, that combo is gonna make some impressive torque.
Also, you may want to add your tranny guy on to your speed dial

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

nothing wrong with that. many guys stray away from this because of the iron block, it's extra weight. but at .120 over on a 4.8/5.3 block, it's @ factory LS1 bore. i suspect bored 5.3's will be the powerplants of many 4th gen cars in the future, as the aluminum blocks are prone to expensive if not irreparable block damage. just MHO.

other than that, sounds like a great idea! i've got a TON of those motors coming out my ears. let me know if you need a core block or parts. i can let them go cheap cheap.

I have been hearing different oppinions about this, some think its way to thin others think it will work. I would like to make it work but what would the downside or possible consequences of what would happen if it was to thin? basically worst case scenario? how much for the block? where are you located?
