Talking Which Heads?

I'm thinking of adding heads to my 1999 trans am but i'm not sure which ones to go with. I was thinking of getting PCR stage 2.5 heads or TEA stage 2 heads. Which head do you think I should go with? I have a stock bottom end 346 with full bolt ons, 3600 vig stall and 3.73 gears. I don't have a cam but i plan on getting one in the 224-230 range, not to big of a cam. I plan on running NA.

Buy some cheap ls6 heads......Sometimes if you wait long enough and shop around enough you can get them cheap. A friend of mine got a set for 175, had a machinist who owed him a favor do 800 bucks of porting work for 250, and had heads that flowed better than heads that costs >2K

So, get a cam to match the high flowing heads with a lot of lift...

ie.. 22x/24x .600+/.600+ on an LSA for his application.

^^^^ The problem is L92's have 2.160/1.59 valves and are shrouded in the LS1 bore. You need a 4.0 bore for them.........

Well are there any problems/gains with just swapping the ls6 heads on untouched?

oh my god. if you don't know what your recommending, don't recommend it.

anytime someone is looking at heads, you really need to figure out what you want to spend. you can NOT get the same performance out of a budget casting and budget porting from a budget porter.

They would be a great match and see 15rwhp untouched. You are looking in the right direction..... They seem pretty easy to pick up on the Corvette Forum for reasonable......

AFR --Been runnin them for 2 years with awesome results. Even swapped onto a forged 383 when my stock block grenaded. Sometimes goin cheap will cost you more in the long run. Good luck with your choice.

This is a good thread. Your definately picking between two good sets of heads, and I have no doubt you'll be happy with either option. That being said here's what I can tell you about the PRC heads. They ship with your choice of valve sizes, and milling for the (currently on special) $1129 a pair price! With this you'll get a brand new set of 5.3l heads fully cnc ported with manley valves & the PRC double spring kit good to .660" lift. We've done tons & tons of combos with camshafts similar to what your discussing, just let my guys know what camshaft your looking to run & we'll custom mill your cylinder heads to meet your exact specs. This way you get exactly what your looking for the first time without paying extra for milling.

We have plenty of engine & chassis dyno data we can send you if you'd like more data about the PRC Stage 2.5 5.3l cylinder heads. Give us a call if we can help you in any way!!

Just noticed your in Texas. If you'd like your welcome to setup a time to come spend a little bit of time with us on the engine dyno. We're always doing head testing & can spend some time with you showing different options.
