Default Small crack in Stock sleeve??

http://torqueaddicts.com/media/new%2...s/DSCF0009.JPG

Anyone seen this before? My engine builder said he sees this even on stock ls1's sometimes and it is nothing to worry about. I can't see it being much of a problem either, but wanted to hear if anyone else had this problem.

Hmmm, I don't like the "look" of it but if you trust your builder then I'm sure you'll be fine. Sorry for not having any direct knowledge

Looks like a good excuse to go with an all bore set up to me.

Okay. How about someone who has built an ls1 before? Does anyone really think this would cause the sleeve to shift or crack through?

That crack really isn't a crack but a slight chip off the flange OD. That flange is not holding the sleeve in the block. The stock sleeves have ribs along the entire exterior sleeve surface, top to bottom which are cast in place when the aluminum is poured during casting.

Make certain the gasket bead does not intersect that defect - I don't think it will. A drop of Loctite 515 flange sealer wouldn't hurt.

Thanks for the tip. I think I will do that. I've also gotten a couple other opinions basically the same.
