Default kook header leaks at head ? seal it with RTV? What bolts to use?

Ok my kook's headers leak where they meet the heads. Putting new engine in now thinking i can RTV the metal gasket to help it seal better ? Maybe the gray RTV or the ultra copper? I just dont like the color of the copper one but if its better ill use it. Anybody do thing before ?

Whats bolts are people using that don't losing over time ?
i Was using the bolts with lock rings but they were a huge pain in *** to take off and to install the first time. Looking for better ideas?

The best header bolts on the planet: http://www.percyshp.com/splitlock_page.htm No stupid lock rings or c-clips.

I've had them on my car for 5 years and they have worked flawlessly. For gaskets, use stock 98 LS1 Camaro exhaust manifold gaskets.

I am with Aaron on the Percy's I just bought them. DONT waste your money on the Stage 8's like I did they are absolute ****,rust and use the PITA clips mentioned.Stock gaskets have always worked great for me. I know Kooks is a reputable company but throw a machinists straight edge on the head and the header flange to be sure the problem is not on a surface.

Yea im pretty sure the header flange is a little off which is causing the leak . Leak only started when i went to 15 psi of boost very small leaks reason i was thinking RTV to seal it. I just ordered brand new heads so the Trickflows should be straight when i get them.

My buddy had this issue with his Pacesetters. He was able to get the flange milled.

Percy Gaskets are what I use. I also have header studs on the heads and it seals real good. No header leaks for me and I have had my Kooks for over 4 years.

When I put my Kooks 1-7/8" headers on my car, I'm pretty sure the flange wasn't true, although I didn't hold a straight edge up to it to verify...then again, I didn't expect it to be since the heat of welding distorts things like that. Once I tightened my header studs (ARP), it pulled the flange to the heads, and the GM MLS gaskets did the rest. No leaks whatsoever.

RTV most likely won't fix something like this - I guess if the flange is too far distorted, you'll end up with this type of problem, and that would need to be rectified with the manufacturer. You'll just have to start trouble shooting to see what the real issue is.

i dont see how any rtv could withstand the heat of a header flange.
