Default what cam should i look into?

Ive been reading and knowing very little about the ls1 i am not certain what cam to get. Lt1's i got down..but this ls1 is a little different.

I was planning on doing a nice head and cam package (430+rwhp goal) at a reputable place outside of pittsburg, but i have since changed my mind to just do a nice cam package and the goodies that go with it. I am looking for something a little aggressive but i dont wanna lose driveability. I do some city driving, so i dont wanna think about any issues.

I would like to get close to 400rwhp although i would be short of it, but its a good goal.
I currently just have Quicktime long tubes, lid, and a maf. have plans for a ported TB, as soon as my buddy gets on the ball.

iI wanna replace the pushrods and all that sh*t, so please point me in a direction on where i should go. Also, any other mods you think would be beneficial thats not to drastic.

thanks
dave

Hey dave,

I have read alot of posts on cams on this forum about thunder racings cams. Also lg motorsports g5x2 cam. People are getting 400 rwhp with this cam easily. There is alot of information on this cam on the other ls1 forums websites. Do some searches for the T1 cam and B1 , they are thunder racing cams. I think the hammer cam is also one. MTI also makes some cams. . Get that car into the low 12's high elevens. Good luck

He's got it ...

Thunder 224 112 cam, T1, B1, g5x2 ... any of them should get you close to 390-400. If you want to go with something that should definately get you there, look into some slightly bigger cams ... but you will start to lose drivability.

Isnt eastside performance out there somewhere? I love the sound clips ive heard of the g5x2. The only thing I wasnt sure about how often you have to change springs with those cams.

Aftermarket timing chain and ported oil pump are also popular mods when doing a cam.

I'd favor a TR-220 based on stating driving needs.

T1 and B1 are MTI camshafts the T1 stand for Tony 1 (Nine Ball) I believe MTI stopped selling them.

I had the RPM 2 cam and loved it. I made 380rwhp with stock TB, stock pulley, stock LS1 intake and stock tuning.

With those mods + the RPM you would be well over 400 hp. The cam has a rather small lift compared to the "new breed" cams, so it is easier on your valvetrain.

i agree. you cant have your cake and eat it to so go with the milder route. i'd get a 224 114 myself, but the 220 works quite well for what your asking. even though you wont need it for mild cam consider dual springs, tit. retainers. and hardened pushrods. thats your best bet for installing a cam and not having to worry about it and you'll get the added strength and longevity.

thanks for all the replies. i am gonna do some research in the ones listed.

my only concern is that i want as much power without losing much drivavility...in my lt1 i had the CC 305, thats what everyone recommended, and when done, i didnt really notice much. so i kinda wish i went a bit more aggressive.

thats the only background i have with cams. i know i am gonna notice a little bit, and to be honest i like having something that sounds and acts aggressive, i just dont want something to drastic.

thanks again

I'm gonna have to agree with jrp on this one. Go for the 224/224 112lsa. Won't be radical, and with a good valvetrain will still be quite reliable. You'll definitely feel the power, and it will sound pretty badass without sounding extreme.
