I had a buddy who installed a gm hot cam in his 99 5.3 pick up. He had no mods except the cam itself and a tune. it had a real nice lope even thru the manifolds. I told him to get his supporting bolt ons first but he didnt listen anyways back on subject his truck ran really well he was beating most other full bolt ons + tune trucks around here till he blew his trannsmission twice and sold the truck. plus exept for a little surging at start up the truck drove around really well

Car Craft swapped heads and cam on a junkyard 5.3 and got to 460hp and 390 ft lbs of torque. I have a set of those heads for sale.. brand new.. really cheap!!!

I think they were able to get about 100hp just by changing the cam and running headers. Here is the article:

i have the 02 zo9 cam in my truck with a tune, its great. they say like a 50hp gain. you could feel it alot more before the tune but it shifted too low. mine shifts at 61k with limiter at 63k. its also got 35s and will beat hemi's

go take a look over on performance trucks.....seems like the smaller cams 224 and smaller are whats used in the trucks.....350 rwhp cam only is easily doable,of course all your supporting boltons and a tune are a must...

you would want something like a 224/224 that way you don't lose the low end power you would need to tow, but would pick up quite a bit overall. it is a great cam for people that DD their ls1's. It would work great in a truck- how much HP don't know but you will definatly notice.

also contact Patrick G on here as he is a cam guru, and may be able to add some insight.
