Default gettin ready to purchase rockers 1.7 or 1.8

im having trouble deciding what to go with the 1.7s or 1.8s from YT can anyone help me out as to what the main differences are between the two, my cam lift is .588 if that helps at all thnx

most cam manufacturers recommend AGAINST running higher ratio rockers with the more aggressive cam lobes (which your cam is).

so go for the 1.7s


and honestly....you really don't even need THOSE. stock rockers work pretty damn good on some serious hp engines.
or are you going with new heads that need roller tips?

i would keep them but i done had 2 to fail on me so im jus gonna get somethin a lil better i jus wasnt sure what the differences are between the ratios an what it does for my motor etc ya kno adv. dissadv type deal

Advantages:

Higher lift
Larger overlap triangle

Disadvantages:

More loads into the lifter with the same springs
Marginal gains (sometimes none)

Here's a major problem with aftermarket rockers - they have a LOT of mass sitting over the valve. This is much worse than having mass over the pushrod, as it has to move 70% (or 80% on a 1.8) more than the pushrod end. This means that you have to get that extra mass stopped and changing direction every time the valve opens and closes. Kinda defeats any lightweight valves or other valvetrain lightening you've done. It can also cause valve float at high RPMS.

When Thunder put together my engine for road racing (high RPMs for 30 minutes, instead of 12 seconds), we put stock rockers back in. We did change out the trunion bearings for Comp Cams' trunion upgrade kit.
