Question Can I Re-Use my oil pan and timing cover gaskets?

If they are in good shape, can I reuse them or are they suppose to replaced when the oil pan or timing cover is pulled off?

I know it sounds cheap, but I am on fumes with this project and want to get it finished.

Thanks!!

Yes. They're designed to be reused.

i tried reusing my oil pan gasket that had 100k on it and it leaked after. i may have retorqued it wrong who knows. i dropped the k member and replaced it and its leak free now. i wouldnt chance the oil pan gasket just on principle of how much work it is to change it while the motor is in the car.

I change both each time in the engine. I hate leaks and would be pissed off if I knew it was my fault for not spending the little extra.

Those are 2 gaskets that would be a real PITB to have to replace if they leaked.

oil pan gasket is to be replaced. never reuse the oil pan gasket, straight out of the service manual.

$100 for both is expensive in my book. Just my $.02.

I guess I'll pay for it later then. This engine is going into a Datsun Z car, both the timing cover and oil pan gasket are easily removable while the engine is still in the car.

Tons of local guys have told me the same thing, reuse, clean everything well and torque to spec. The gaskets only have 13k miles on them if that makes any difference.

Thanks for the replies guys, no others are needed.

Take care.
