Default Not All 224 Camshafts Are Equal... Engine Dyno Data INSIDE!!

Here's a engine dyno data sheet for you guys to look over. This is where we compared & built baseline data of 224 duration camshafts so we can check advance for best average power & build a nice baseline for our newest LS camshaft.

This comparison shows the following camshafts on the same engine same mods

Thunder 224/224 114 Camshaft
TSP 224R 114 Camshaft
TSP 224R 112 Camshaft
Baseline Stock LS1 Camshaft

From testing we did with these camshafts at different advance points we were able to maximize average power across the board for guys looking for nice hp gains across the board.

After creating these baselines we tested lots of new camshaft combos & settled on the all new TSP 224/227 camshaft using all new custom Texas Speed lobes. The new TSP camshaft is a 224/227 .615"/605 112. This camshaft helps to maximize power potential using 224 intake duration. Also included is the new lobes on a sinlgle pattern 224/224 setup using the new TSP .615" lift lobe.

The new 224/227 camshaft is now available for shipping & works great with the PAC Single Springs!!!

Cool comparison - what are the other mods (headers, intake, etc.)?

I love side by side comparisons like this. Can we expect more in the future?

Just curious: Do you have a two piece timing cover, or are you having to pull the crank pulley each time?

Definitely keep an eye out in the future! There's much more to come including more testing of some of our competitor's products!

We use a QTP 2 piece cover to make the cam swaps fairly quick and painless

What would the numbers be at the wheels on an a4 with The new TSP camshaft 224/227 using the same mods are your engine?

Could you post those as numbers. I am mostly color blind and it is impossible for me to comprehend those graphs.

It would also be more interesting and scientific if you posted the complete installed specs of the cams. One may be on a certain icl while the other was installed at another. That could result in the power variances.

It's running a stock LS6 intake manifold and completely stock 853 casting heads on all these runs.

Sorry, we are not giving the complete spec of each camshaft such as the ICL out so that our competitors can use the info to streamline and improve their camshaft line-ups. This engine dyno is an investment to help improve our business and to help get the best out there for our customers. Some shops grind a camshaft blindly, and it dyno's nice in one car, and it becomes their best seller and it gets pushed on all their customers whether it's the best for their combo or not. All the while the customer doesn't get the best they could have because not all shops spend the money to do this kind of in-depth R&D. Hope you all understand. I can tell you that ICL/ECL does make a healthy difference on power production and powerband though (all the VE's play their part), and we're glad to have this tool to help us offer the best to our customers!

This one made 473.2hp/429.1ftlbs at peak with the stock LS6 intake, stock 853 heads, and stock balancer. If you guess at 20% drivetrain loss (depends on convertor and all) you'd be looking at 378hp/343ftlbs at the tire.

I take it from those numbers that the dyno was done on a engine dyno and not on a chassis dyno.

For a second there I was about to poop my pants when I saw those numbers. Then I did drivetrain loss and it is about right.

Nice report though.

I really like my TSP 224r/114 cam, made excellent power for a small cam on stock heads and it drives pretty close to stock. I'm wondering how good it will be as a blower cam when I build my rear mount setup

Dug: We did give the ICL's in the 220 cam thread. You have to understand we're not doing this to give the knowledge away to our competitors. This is for us to improve our camshaft selection for our customers, so they know they're getting the best available.

just got my car back from getting the 224r install and tune. IIRC it made 374rwhp. and about the same amount of tq. but the real juicy thing is the power and torque curves them selves. i will have a pic of the dyno sheet as soon as i find my camera.
