Manifold delema! Opinions Please.
Ok so here is my deal. I was attempting to change the O2's on my 99 TA it has 115k on the clock. Needless to say the O2's were in there pretty good. I thought I was problem free until I was driving to work today and started smelling exhaust pretty bad. So anyway I start looking at where or what the problem might be and staring me right in the face is a crack on the passenger side manifold.
So here is my question. Keep in mind I really don't want to spend much money or more than I need to. Should I try and find a used manifold or should I get shortys? I was thinking it would be a good excuse to justify LT's, but I was stashing money for a LS3 swap in the future which for sure I won't be getting budget headers for. Oh and one more thing what are the odds of breaking the bolts getting the exhaust manifold off?

Thanks I never thought about that. The more I think about this the more I want some LT's. Would pacesetters be ok? I have read a lot and people seem to like them. If I decide on that the only worry I have would be breaking the manifold bolts has anyone had a problem with that?

I have pacesetter headers and I have no problem with them at all. But as already said a good set of Stainless headers would solve both your problem now and your future later with the LS3. But to get the bolts off I would spray them with some good penetrating oil and let it sit for a few days. Then crank your car and let the manifolds get warm and the bolts should come off pretty easy. Be sure to use a hand tool to get them started otherwise you would torque the bolt head right off.

every set of manifold bolts i've *tried to remove broke, regardless of how warm they were...and/or mileage. i had a similar problem on the car in sig, i just spent $20 on another set of stock manifolds and replaced them. also did plugs/wires at the same time. but i'm cheap, so go figure..
edit: i am anti-header, so take my experience with a grain of salt. plus the car is 2 tortillas from the ground and headers isn't a great option.
