Default LS1 cam vs LS6 cam

I know have the LS1 cam want a larger Cam but can't swing it right now. Need new shoes for her first!! I have the chance to pick up a LS6 cam from a buddy real cheap. What would be the gains?

im not sure exactly, but i wouldnt say its worth the while.... just wait until you get new tires, and save up $500 for a new cam. Do it properly, you'll just regret it later if you don't.

It's more than $500 in just parts to do a cam swap, plus labor (if you have it done), plus tune.

just in parts for a cam swap:

cam (new) $350-$450 (off the shelf -custom)
valve sparing (918) $170
hardened push rods $110
gaskets $95
balancer bolt $5
oil pump (ported LS6) $150
timing chain (LS2) $38

TOTAL $918-1018+ in just needed parts.
PLUS: tax, shipping, assembly lube, 12qt of oil, 2filter, coolant, and other misc items

Tunning will run around $350-500 weather its a dyno tune are a drive tune.

It all adds up really fast!!!!

i know, but if he's asking if an ls6 cam will suffice then hes probably not looking for a huge cam which will require the need of new springs/rods.... he could get away with a 224 and gasket kit for $500.... theres many ways of doing the same thing.

LS6 cam still works awesome in ls1 applications and will be a very noticable improvement. However, if I was going through the trouble to swap the camshaft I would go with something purpose spec'd to my application to make the time invested most worthwile.

To sum it up save your pennies and do it the way you want the first time so you don't have to do it twice!
