Default Best option for leak test tool

What is the best tool for leakdown test? ...the cheaper one too!


Should I fabricate one with some fitting from a store to save $$ because I see its worth 115-130$!!

any input is appreciate!

..and I'm a noob with the tool so what is the procedure?

Some auto parts stores will rent tools. I bought a leak down tester at Sears a few years ago and it was not expensive...$20-$25 if my memory serves.

I saw on Horsepower that they made one from a spark plug. I tried & couldn't get all of the ceramic & electrode out of the center, but they did. So, this might be something you want to try.

You gut an old plug & then either thread or JB weld an air hose fitting connector (or a tire valve in order to use a cheapy tire air pressure, cigarette lighter powered pump). They used an air hose fitting, the cheapy pump idea was mine. It should eventuallt build enough pressure to indicate a serious problem. Although, won't be enough for a complete test. Added it, 'cuz you asked for cheap. An air compressor fitting & use is better.
