Default cam break in

I have a 2000 auto camaro and I am in the process of installing a mild cam. I heard I have to drive it 500 miles to break it in befor a dynotune. Is this true??

500 is what ive heard, although some go straight to the dyno. some drive it around for a while, and do the final miles on the dyno.

Uh... no. It's a freakin' roller cam, there's nothing to "break in". This isn't a flat tappet cam that needs to establish a wear pattern. Install it and go to the dyno. Won't hurt a thing.

Yea I didn't think it had to be broken in but people tell me I'm stupid if I don't. What about gears do those have to be broken in??

Rear end gears should be broken in... drive 30 miles, shut it off, let it cool completely, repeat 3 times. Then take it easy for a few hundred miles and then you should be good to go.

I recommend 2 heat cycles on the springs, meaning you drive the car till operating temps, then shut it down. Repeat twice.

Change oil.

Beat the **** out of it.
